A thematic map is a map that displays physical area, but represents some other type of theme, such as cultural, social, economic, political etc. This thematic map is representative of the median family income in the United States during 2006. The lighter greens represent the state's with a lower income and the darker greens represent the state's with a higher income. Hawaii, Alaska, and the upper eastern states near Massachusetts are the states with the highest income in America according to this map.
